Dr. De'Broski Herbert will reveal his inspirational journey from his small southern hometown to academia at a prestigious university in a large, urban northern city. His path to success was littered with overt and subtle racism, external hyper-scrutiny, and feelings of isolation. Yet, he defied racial stereotypes by achieving tenured faculty status in the basic sciences, a field often deemed "too rigorous and difficult for Blacks to master." Ultimately, Dr. Herbert will relay the joys and rewards of achieving the pinnacle of success in a career he finds exhilarating and worthwhile.
De'Broski Herbert, B.S., Ph.D. is currently a tenured Professor of Pathobiology and Director and principal investigator of his own eponymous laboratory, The Herbert Lab, at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia.
