About the event

Dr. Kevin Revier (left) and Dr. Favian Alejandro Guertin-Martin

In the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), we have seen the dismantling of pro-Confederate memorials and relics in cities such as New Orleans, Baltimore, Richmond, and Charlottesville. Yet, the haunting specter of the past does not adhere just in statues—it does so in ghost stories, as well. In Gettysburg, where the bloodiest battle of the Civil War occurred, tour guides recount the ghostly sprawls of Confederate soldiers still troubling the land, representing the haunting—and very manifest—reality of white supremacy not wholly extinguished with the abolition of slavery.

Our expert speakers explore the intersection of dark tourism, racism, and U.S. history, as they delve into the haunting stories that surround this infamous battlefield. This thought-provoking event will challenge your perceptions and encourage meaningful discussions about the complexities of U.S. history.
